The Plot:
As Manolo’s life declines, he recounts a remarkable journey to his estranged son.
Josemarie’s (Charlie Cox) and Manolo’s (Wes Bentley) childhood friendship fades as their families’ fortunes ebb and wane.
As young adults, an enthusiastic Manolo joins the Fascists during the Spanish Civil War, and is quickly embedded with the communists as a spy, while Josemarie finds the Catholic Church.
As the war rages, both men’s paths criss-cross as they traverse the countryside one fleeing, the other pursuing to eventually discover the power of forgiveness.

Taking place around the Spanish Civil War, “There Be Dragons” is the story of two best friends who grow apart to live two drastically different lives. Josemaria Escrivá (Charlie Cox), who’s family is faced with being poor for most of his childhood, would go on to become a priest and found Opus Dei. Meanwhile Manolo Torres, who comes from a wealthy family, drops out of seminary and eventually becomes a spy who infiltrates a group of communist rebels. Each must conceal their identity, while facing thier own ‘dragons.’
