CAROL’s Take: “Surviving Progress” is a handsome, crisply edited documentary that argues powerfully against two notions. First is the belief that all progress is good. Second is the idea that any enterprise that creates jobs and generates profits is automatically a positive thing. These two widespread beliefs are dubbed “progress traps.” Practices associated with them lead to short term benefits, but eventually result in disaster because they are often unsustainable.
