When you hear the phrase Dynamic Duo the first thing that comes to mind is the Dark Knight and the Boy Wonder, a.k.a. Batman and Robin. That was until this week when I went to the movies. The man who had the world “Lost” on an island scratching their heads has teamed up with “that guy” who made blockbusters out of an archeologist and an alien with a big heart to bring us one of the best stories to be told this summer. JJ Abrams (Lost, Star Trek) wrote and directed while Steven Spielberg served as advisor and producer. What emerged was a film called “Super 8”.

The Plot:
After the tragic death of his mother, youngster Joe Lamb (Joel Courtney) struggles to connect with his sheriff father, Jackson Lamb (Kyle Chandler) as both struggle with their grief.
Late one night while filming a zombie movie with Cary (Ryan Lee), Martin (Gabriel Basso), Charles (Riley Griffiths) and Alice (Elle Fanning), they witness a horrific train crash, inadvertently capturing it on film.
As the army moves in to clean up the crash, Sheriff Lamb begins suspecting a link to the army’s crash clean-up and the strange power outages and disappearances throughout the town.

In “Super 8,” writer / director J.J. Abrams shows us what it would be like if “Stand By Me,” “LOST” and “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial” were all combined into one epic film. Many elements are reminiscent of the aforementioned material, and the result is an amalgamation that puts it right up there amongst the classics that it compliments.
