What It’s About: Inspired by true events, “People Like Us” is a well-written, richly layered family drama-comedy. Sam (Chris Pine), a slick salesman, finds out his dad died just after a crucial business deal crashes. He and his girlfriend (Olivia Wilde) travel to L.A.’s Laurel Canyon, where we discover the thorny reality of his estrangement from his parents.
