Gil (Owen Wilson) is a successful, but self-loathing screenwriter. He yearns for an earlier era when he might have starved in a Paris attic while writing a great novel. His fiancé (Rachel McAdams) yearns to spend Gil’s big Hollywood bucks furnishing a home in California. She belittles his goals and attitude, decrying “All that’s missing is the tuberculosis.”
