One of Graham Greene’s most famous novels, “Brighton Rock,” was written in 1938. The story of a small-time British hoodlum was first translated for the screen in 1947.
This new adaptation moves the story forward to 1964 during a time of unrest in England punctuated by youth riots that spread from town to town.
Pinkie Browne (Sam Riley) is still considered a kid by the more experienced members the minor mob that adopted him. But after witnessing the brutal stabbing of their leader – his mentor – the youngster becomes increasingly agitated.
